Model 4580

The Model 4580 MICRO-PACE is a programmable, dual-chamber temporary cardiac pacemaker capable of multi-mode, multi-parameter operation. It is capable of operating in all of the commonly accepted pacing modes from ventricular or atrial asynchronous VOO or AOO to AV Universal DDD. Every pacing parameter which may need to be adjusted to suit the needs of a specific patient, can be adjusted, not only over a broad range, but in increments, fine or coarse, which are more physiologically or diagnostically appropriate to that portion of the range of values. Programmable parameters, among others, include: rate, sensitivity, pulse amplitude, pulse width, refractory period(s), AV delay, maximum tracking rate, blanking period, and rapid stimulation. Additional standard pacing parameters are provided as non-programmable features.

The Model 4580 MICRO-PACE is an FDA PMA approved device that incorporates several features not commonly found in other temporary cardiac pacemakers. These include: 1) a constant voltage output, 2) a memory function to allow the storage and subsequent retrieval of previously programmed mode parameters, 3) the ability to employ the device as a rapid atrial stimulator from any programmed mode, 4) the limited use of parameter interlocks, low value parameter warnings and time-outs, and visual and audible cueing, all of which are intended to limit inadvertent programming errors, 5) a keypad "lock" to thwart tampering, 6) a design provision allowing MICRO-PACE to continue pacing during the time required to charge the batteries, 7) a means to temporarily suspend output to check on underlying rhythm, 8) a dual-chamber, non-competitive STAT PACE from any mode, 9) an enhanced atrial sensitivity adjustable to 0.2 millivolts, and 10) a "resume operation" function which allows prompt recovery of the last programmed mode and parameter settings after the device has been turned off and back on again.

The case of the Model 4580 MICRO-PACE is fabricated of durable ABS plastic. The sealed keypad is used to access and perform all functions of the pacemaker. The LCD display provides the means for verifying program settings and changes, and for conveniently monitoring operation while in use.

Despite extensive programming capabilities in a Model 4580 MICRO-PACE, it is sufficiently small and light to be worn comfortably by an ambulatory patient. Arm strap made of elastic Velcro provide for convenient and secure attachment. The MICRO-PACE along with its straps, batteries, and cables is supplied in a sturdy plastic carrying case. When not in use, it is recommended that the MICRO-PACE always be stored in its carrying case to protect it from accidental damage. If a Model 4580 is dropped onto a hard surface, with or without obvious damage, use should be promptly suspended.

Finally, the Model 4580 MICRO-PACE is fully electrically isolated. The circuit is protected against damage due to normal cardioversion and defibrillatory discharges, and the risk of output inhibition caused by detection of environmental EMI is limited by special shielding and signal filtering. Pacemaker "runaway" is prevented by special rate limiting circuitry.

Model EV4543

The Model EV4543 is a single-chamber temporary cardiac pacemaker designed to provide acute therapeutic, prophylactic, and diagnostic pacing support. It is capable of operating in the demand or asynchronous modes and includes adjustable rate, output, and sensing controls. The EV4543 also has rate-tripling (x3) control which provides for high-rate pacing up to 450 ppm for use in rapid atrial stimulation.

The EV4543 has a constant voltage output which is capable of delivering more energy to the patient than similar constant current devices. This feature provides a definite advantage in establishing and maintaining capture when encountering low stimulation impedance in pacing leads.

The Model EV4543 is powered by standard 9-volt batteries and is compatible with most endocardial and myocardial lead systems. This device comes complete with carrying case, arm straps, extension cable, and instruction manual.

The Pace Medical MINIATURE Temporary Pacemaker, an external cardiac pacemaker with internal power source, offers short-term pacing support for a patient with myocardial infarction or temporary heart block.

The MINIATURE pacemaker operates in either the R-wave inhibited (demand) or the asynchronous mode with rate continuously variable within the range of 30 - 150 ppm when the switch is moved from off to on. Selection of the X3 rate position will automatically change the unit to asynchronous mods and will override the demand mode of the demand/async switch.

THE X3 POSITION IS FOR SPECIAL SHORT-TERM HIGH RATE ATRIAL PACING ONLY.

To prevent accidental selection of high rate atrial pacing, the switch knob must be lifted before it can be turned to the X3 position. The hinged, transparent cover will not fully close during high rate atrial pacing.

The output and sensitivity control scales are expanded at the lower settings to facilitate approximate threshold measurement.

In the presence of an excessive level of electrical interference (EMI), the pacemaker will automatically switch from the demand mode to a temporary asynchronous pacing mode approximately 25% higher than the selected rate. Normal function is resumed when the level of interference is reduced below the level of detection or stops completely.

Should an electronic component failure occur in the unit, the maximum high asynchronous rate is limited to 200ppm in the model EV4543 in the Xl mode. Model EV4543 operated in the X3 mode is limited to 500ppm.

Model 4170

The Bedside™ Model 4170, single-chamber temporary cardiac pacemaker, is housed in a rugged metal case and has a new generation, high-accuracy, digital electronic circuitry. The electronic modules are manufactured using the latest methods of surface mounted electronic assembly, at a state-of –the-art facility. The design features include control knobs for convenient, user-friendly operation, increased ranges for rate, output and sensitivity. In addition, it has a 15 volt maximum constant voltage output and a high-rate atrial pacing capability. A United States of America, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared autoclavable extension cable with a universal patient connector is included with each Bedside. This cable eliminates the need for any adapters.

REF 4800

The REF 4800 pacing analyzer is an internally powered, software-programmable device designed for continuous operation in the acute cardiac-care environment as both a temporary cardiac pacemaker and a pacing analyzer. Extensive multi-parameter, multi-mode programmability is particularly desirable during the primary implantation of a permanent pulse generator where the ability to mimic the implantable device as closely as possible can have great short-term and long-term significance. The REF 4800 is available in three model configurations, Model 4800, 4801, 4802.

The REF 4800 pacing analyzer is a constant voltage output device, capable of operating in all of the commonly utilized pacing modes from ventricular or atrial asynchronous VOO or AOO to AV Universal DDD pacing. In addition, those pacing parameters that may need to be adjusted to suit the specific needs of a patient, may be varied over a broad range, yet in increments, fine or coarse, which are more physiologically or diagnostically appropriate to that portion of the range of values. Programmable parameters include: rate, sensitivity, pulse amplitude, pulse width, and AV delay. Additional non-programmable parameters of interest include: maximum tracking rate which varies with rate, blanking period, ventricular safety pacing, PVC response, and a pacemaker-mediated tachycardia (PMT) termination algorithm.

Also, the REF 4800 pacing analyzer incorporates several additional features to simplify and broaden application. These include, among others: 1) a memory function to allow the storage and subsequent retrieval and printing of previously programmed data and measured information via an infrared (IR) link, 2) instant ON in any desired inhibited mode, 3) immediate output inhibition and recovery with the press of a key, 4) continuous display of pacing status and test data, 5) a backlit liquid crystal display (LCD), 6) non-volatile memory, and 7) a temporary maximum output key.

The display of the REF 4800 is configured to provide the user with all the information that may be required to perform the operations necessary to use the device either as a stimulator or a pacing analyzer. Legends, mode, parameter values, and test results are all displayed in a clear and concise manner. The case of the device is fabricated of durable ABS plastic. A sealed keypad and a control wheel are used to access and perform all functions of the analyzer, largely eliminating the potential for failure of mechanical switches. Additionally, the keypad provides a higher degree of resistance to fluid intrusion than is customarily found in conventional electronic devices.

Finally, the REF 4800 analyzer is fully electrically isolated. The circuit is protected from damage due to normal cardioversion and defibrillatory discharges, and the risk of output inhibition caused by detection of environmental EMI is limited by special shielding and signal filtering.
